Located at the historic Brantford Train Station, The Train Station Coffee House & Gallery opened in February of 2009, and when you ask Mike and Linda Tutt how their vision came to be, their eyes lit up with enthusiasm as they said, “It’s time had come for Brantford.”

The Train Station Coffee House & Gallery is located just north of downtown Brantford and it’s the only venue of its kind along the VIA Rail Quebec City-Windsor Corridor. Passenger trains travel between Windsor and Union Station in Toronto, and Brantford Station is the 11th most active station in Canada. Brantford handles nine trains a day, and about 150 people commute from here to Toronto every weekday morning.

Always with the intention to promote local talent, the gallery features different artists, live music and special events on a regular basis. Gallery bookings have been overwhelming, with local artists eagerly lining up to support this new arts venue. “The gallery space is fully booked until next year – the response has been wonderful!”, said the Tutt’s
Local photographer, Jack Jackowetz, had an exhibition on display at The Station. “This space is one of the best gallery spaces in the area, without question,” Jackowetz said.

The train station was built in 1905 and is protected through Parks Canada, and the Station Coffee House & Gallery worked extensively with VIA to ensure the building’s historical integrity was preserved during the renovation process. As a teenager, Mike worked at the caboose station, which he feels has made his connection with the Brantford train station so close. Together, the Tutts made many interior upgrades such as installing new washrooms and a new heating system, while VIA came to the table with other improvements.

“VIA has come to the plate with some major lease hold improvements, including the careful restoration work of the exterior façade of the historical and architecturally significant Brantford Train Station and our building, located on the far south-west side of the main building,” Mike said.

Today the Brantford railway station attracts hundreds of train buffs from all over the world.
